Taste function measurements

Abstract
Accumulated knowledge on a variety of local and systemic factors about taste disorders coupled with the development of diagnostic methods increased the complexity in the evaluation of taste function. Taste function measurements range from the methods judging based on subjects¡¯opinion to ones measuring subjects¡¯body response objectively. Psychophysiological method is an example of diagnostic method based on subjective opinion about tastants. On the
other hand, event-related potential is a typical example of measuring subjects¡¯cerebral responses to taste stimuli. There
are various types of methods for taste function measurements according to diversity of stimulus medium, purpose of test,
and recording and interpretation methods. The objective of this article is to review diverse methods of taste function
measurements and related consideration.
